When it was announced that the beloved Barnes & Noble in my hometown of Bethesda, Maryland, would close and be replaced by an Anthropologie store, the community was devastated—seriously. It may sound silly, but that Barnes & Noble was a true fixture in our little downtown area—it was where teens would wait to get picked up after nights out (my friends and I spent many an evening in middle and early high school waiting for someone's mom or dad after we'd sneakily flipped through Cosmopolitan in the upstairs café area) and where families would gather on weekend mornings. But while that Barnes & Noble will always hold a sentimental place in my heart, the home decor enthusiast in me definitely isn't disappointed by the new Anthro and its sister store, Terrain, both of which are now conveniently a short metro ride away from my apartment in D.C.
